If this is your first time working with Carlos B, this 90-minute introductory lesson is the best place to begin. This extended first session gives you time to talk through your goals, get comfortable with the equipment, and start mixing without feeling rushed. Whether you’re brand new to DJing, returning after a long break, or curious about performing in event spaces, this session is designed to meet you where you are. *$100 Special* All lessons in March 2026 are $100! Online booking deposit is $25. Carlos Baca is a Portland-based DJ, educator, and founder of PopCartPDX, a mobile, artist-owned sound system performing at festivals, riverfront events, bike parties, and community dance gatherings. He has been DJing professionally for over 15 years and brings a background in arts education and special education to his teaching. His approach blends technical fundamentals with real-world performance knowledge — delivered in a patient, supportive style that adapts to each student’s learning pace, goals, and comfort level. Many students start feeling confident within just a few sessions. During your first 90-minute lesson, you can expect: • A conversation about your music taste, goals, and experience • Orientation to DJ equipment and software (if needed) • Core mixing skills like beatmatching, phrasing, and EQ • Guided hands-on practice time • A clear plan for what to work on after the session Some students want to DJ just for fun, while others aim to perform live — both paths are welcome here. The goal of this first session is to help you leave feeling oriented, encouraged, and excited to keep going. Lessons are available in-person in the Portland area, with select virtual sessions available upon request.
